At WeichertMehner, Michael Sagurna primarily advises clients in change and crisis situations. Our clients have great confidence in his expertise: building and strengthening awareness and the reputation of companies, institutions, individuals and topics. Thanks to his many years of experience as a government spokesman and minister of state, Michael Sagurna is also a sought-after sparring partner for decision-makers.
He studied law and communication sciences in Göttingen and later in Bonn. Initially, the fully qualified lawyer worked as a freelance radio and newspaper correspondent. Mr Sagurna also worked twice as a member of the CDU campaign staff for the Bundestag elections and as editor of the CDU’s “Deutschland Union-Dienst”. Michael Sagurna then reported as a correspondent from the civil wars in Afghanistan and Angola. Shortly after German reunification, the Prime Minister of Saxony, Kurt Biedenkopf, appointed him government spokesman. In the same position, he simultaneously deputised for the head of the state chancellery and acted as the state’s media representative. In previous years, he had been an editor, presenter, capital city correspondent and studio manager (RIAS 2, RIAS-TV). Sagurna later became Head of the State Chancellery under Prime Minister Georg Milbrandt and was sworn in as State Secretary and Minister of State. In between, Michael Sagurna founded a communications consultancy in Dresden.
Michael Sagurna has been a member of the Broadcasting Council of Deutsche Welle since 1994 and a member of the Media Council of the Saxon State Authority for Private Broadcasting and New Media (SLM) since 2010 and its President since 2013.
